There's A Hole In My Heart When I Lose My Best Friend

John Scannell

Written in memory of my dear friend Bart Lempicki, and dedicated to everyone we've loved and lost along the way. Some people leave this world, but never leave our hearts. This song is about the empty space they leave behind and the memories that keep them close.

Always Have, Always Will

John Scannell

A song I wrote to my wife. Words that we say to each other every morning for the past 40 years and will say for many more.

Teaching Me Every Day

John Scannell

I thought I was the one teaching my granddaughter about life. Turns out, she was teaching me. A song about slowing down, seeing the world through a child's eyes, and discovering that sometimes the smallest hands teach us life's biggest lessons

This song was inspired by the people who seem to have life figured out. Through the eyes of a bartender working a chaotic shift, it tells the story of those sitting quietly at the end of the bar, fully present in the moment. While the world rushes by, they've learned something important: sometimes happiness is as simple as slowing down, being together, and enjoying where you are.

“Burnt Toast” is a song I wrote about the little things in life that become the biggest memories. Originally written as something to leave behind for my children, grandchildren, family, and friends, it's about life's simplest lessons: Be nice. Do what's right. Love deeply. Show up for those who matter. After losing loved ones this past year, its message means even more. Life isn't always easy, but it's a blessing. Sometimes our greatest legacy is the love we leave behind.

Brotherhood begins with blood, but life has a way of growing the family. From childhood brothers to teammates and lifelong friends, this song celebrates the men who stand beside us, show up without being asked, and have our backs through it all. The "Brother from another Mother" Sometimes the strongest bonds need no words, just knowing someone is there. Because blood may be where the story begins, but a brother ain't always kin.

I wrote this song inspired by several Bible scriptures and a simple belief: God is always working for our good, even when we don't understand His plan. As I've grown older, I've learned that faith isn't about getting every answer or every prayer answered the way we want. It's about trusting His timing, being thankful for His blessings, and believing He's with us through every season of life. My hope is that this song might someday be sung in churches as a reminder of His faithfulness.
